The Situation

Smith Micro Software, Inc. is a leading developer and marketer of wireless and broadband communication, PC utility and diagnostic, and ecommerce software products and services.

Smith Micro's strategy is to broaden the company’s product footprint and allow expansion into other high growth wireless security sectors.

In order to accomplish this, Smith Micro is conducting a campaign to hire a Senior Java Developer who will work on the latest telecommunication oriented products at the Smith Micro offices in Chicago, Illinois.

The Position

The Senior Java Developer will directly support a team of engineers developing complex J2EE applications. The individual in this role will be responsible for the full life cycle of software development, including programming, debugging, integrating, and documenting high quality software products.

A broad background in numerous software technologies and network protocols is essential.

The Ideal Candidate

This highly self-motivated individual must have the desire and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment and the ability to investigate new technologies which contribute to the development of our products. The work is extraordinarily challenging and demanding.

The ideal candidate will have a broad background in distributed software development (J2SE, J2EE, authentication, security and encryption) and relational database design and development (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) on Windows and Linux/Unix operating systems.

The successful candidate will be developing server side components (JSP, servlets, JavaBeans, EJB) with special attention to security, performance and scalability issues. In-depth knowledge of MVC and other Java patterns, XML, database design and connectivity is a must. Successful experience in developing user friendly and dynamic web applications is a plus.
